Sacred Margins

The “Sacred Margins’ Conference took place at the Node residential centre 11-13 September 2009. Thomas Moore and Mary-Jane Rust give key note presentations. Tom used some beautifully evocative slides while talking poetically on Eros to illustrate the liminal mystery of the psyche. His time seemed too short and many wanted to see more but as one participant said his talk was the pebble dropped into the pool - we then worked and layed with and in the ripples. Mary-Jane also used slides to present some of the planetary concerns of which therapists could be aware but often aren’t. She led a short exercise in seeing what negative projections (slugs particularly) animals had to bear on our behalf. The shadow in the margins of our work was not entirely comfortable.

After a powerful dream matrix before breakfast, Dale Mathers and Chris Robertson engaged each other and the whole group in a conversation at the margins of Trust - Mistrust; different shades of Shame; the overemphasis on light. This lively exchange became a set for the afternoon groups -for reports on the groups, see other pasts.

The final plenary brought extraordinarily powerful enactments from these groups closing with one that was conducted in a pregnant silence. Most people were very satisfied and we all would have liked more of Tom Moore
